UPDATE: Oklahoma Girl Scout Katie Francis has broken a cookie record selling 18,107 boxes so far.
The previous record was 18,000 completed in the 1980s.
Her goal was 18,100 but she raised it to 20,000 boxes during the sale period which ends March 30.
OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma Girl Scout is on track to break the worldwide cookie-selling record in 2014.
Katie Francis already holds the Oklahoma statewide record, a title she’s held for the past two years.
“There are three ingredients: time, commitment and asking everyone I see,” Francis said.
The world record is 18,000 boxes.
Francis’ goal was 18,100 boxes.
However, Francis raised her personal goal to 20,000 boxes during the sale, which opened Jan. 31 and ends March 30.
She has sold more than 15,500 so far.
Francis plans to sell 377 boxes each day to stay on track to break the world record.
“I ask a lot of people. All my time is spent asking people to buy Girl Scout cookies,” Francis said.
Francis is unwilling to share every detail of her record-breaking cookie-selling strategy but said she expects to meet her goal this year.
Girl Scout cookies are $3.50 per box.
