(San Diego, CA)—

Gonzaga used a 9-0 start and then closed the first half on a 9-1 run to take a 43-34 lead over Oklahoma State in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in sunny southern California.

OSU fell behind by 11 points in the game’s early moments, largely due to Gonzaga making it’s first seven shots from the field. But Marcus Smart and Kamari Murphy rallied the Pokes to within a single point. Smart, playing in his final games in his brief but stellar OSU career, finished the half with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals to keep the Cowboys in it.

Gonzaga burned the nets for 54% shooting and they have a distinct size advantage inside. OSU head coach Travis Ford was incensed with the officiating late in the half and received a technical foul with :11 to play before intermission. If the Pokes rally to win, they’ll play Arizona in the West Regional second round game Sunday, also in San Diego.
