UPDATE: Man whose body was found dumped near Oklahoma creek has been identified

UPDATE 3/26:  Authorities are reporting that the Durant homicide victim whose body was found in a near a creek has been positively identified.

Steven Lee Sessums, 32, was identified as the man who was allegedly murdered by Raymond Stewart.

The medical examiner determined Sessums died from blunt force trauma to his head and neck.


UPDATE 3/25: OSBI agents have arrested a Durant man on a complaint of first degree murder.

According to reports, Raymond Jay Stewart will be booked into jail Tuesday afternoon and be held on a $2 million bond.

Stewart claims he did not know the victim.

Reports say the two met at a Durant bar Friday night and then met at another location in Durant early Saturday morning.

Stewart allegedly dumped the man’s body near the creek.

Investigators are still working on identifying the man found in the creek.

They are working on running his fingers through the Automated Fingerprint Identification System to see if the victim is in the system.


DURANT, Okla. – Authorities are trying to identify the body of a man that was discovered near an Oklahoma creek.

Just after 4 p.m. on Monday, a caller reported finding a body near Canella Creek, just east of Durant.

When deputies arrived, they found the body of man.

Agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation also responded to help with the investigation.

Right now, officials do not know the man’s identity and have not released his manner of death.
