Mom arrested for breastfeeding and drinking at restaurant, waitress fired for stepping in
CONWAY, Ark. – A mother is facing charges and a waitress has been fired after the new mom was breastfeeding and drinking at the same time in an Arkansas restaurant.
According to ABC News, the mother said she didn’t know it was illegal.
Tasha Adams, 28, is a stay-at-home mother of three children ages six, two and eight months.
Adams, who lives in Toad Suck, Arkansas, a dry town, went to a funeral in Conway, Arkansas, not a dry town, and took her baby who was still nursing at the time.
She told ABC News she and her family stopped at a restaurant after where she said she had two beers over the course of an hour and a half.
An off-duty waitress tells a different story.
Jackie Conners said she saw several drinks in front of Adams.
Conners said she watched the bartender make some of them and they contained liquor.
The waitress said she reported it to management but was told the manager “had already decided not to cut off the drinking, breast-feeding mother.”
Conners called the police.
Adams told officers she didn’t know drinking and breastfeeding was illegal and she is actually correct.
According to the report, Arkansas doesn’t have laws on the books about drinking and breastfeeding.
But officers made a judgement call and arrested her for child endangerment.
Conners said she was fired a week after calling police.
She said she was just trying to do the right thing and if put in the situation again, she would make the same decision.
