Edmond man on the run after child molestation allegations
UPDATE: 4/1 – The man wanted for allegedly sexually molesting a young relative has turned himself in to police.
Andrew Folk was supposed to turn himself in Friday afternoon, but never showed up.
He is facing four counts of lewd acts with a child under the age of 16.
EDMOND, Okla. – Edmond Police are searching for a man who they said molested an 11-year-old girl.
Court documents state Andrew Folk was giving the child a back rub when his hands made their way up her shirt touching her breast, then inside her pants touching her private parts.
He told investigators he became aroused as he did so.
But how authorities learned of the molestation was as disturbing as the crime itself.
Jenny Monroe with Edmond Police said, “The victim was told by the mother to not say anything and that they were going to handle it themselves.”
Police said eight days later, the little girl was so shaken up she finally confided in her school counselor.
School administrators called authorities.
Monroe said, “This child has been victimized obviously once by being touched inappropriately but also again by being told not to talk about it.”
The affidavit states when investigators questioned the mother about not reporting the crime to police she said she “didn’t know what to do”.
She is facing one count of failure to report abuse.
“As adults it is our responsibility to come forward to report these things and protect children even if we don’t know how to handle it,” said Monroe. “Let law enforcement handle it the way its supposed to be handled. That’s the best thing to do to protect a child.”
Andrew Folk is now facing four counts of committing lewd acts with a minor.
Police attempted to arrest him Friday afternoon but he was nowhere to be found.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
