RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A Richmond police officer says what she saw in the middle of a busy highway made her hit her brakes and turn on her lights.
It wasn’t a traffic violation that caught her attention but a terrified dog, trapped in the median.
Karen Spencer-Boyles saw two dogs in the median of the Jeff Davis Highway on Tuesday morning and knew she couldn’t just drive away.
According to WTVR, one of the dogs had been hit and killed by a car.
The other was scared, whimpering and was refusing to leave its friend’s side.
She said, “You could tell he was scared. He just looked helpless. It’s kind of like if you had a friend and your friend had been hurt. He just stood by his friend.”
The dog, who is being called Giusseppe, was taken to the Richmond Animal Control.
Workers believe Giusseppe has an owner because he is neutered and had a flea collar on when he was rescued.
