Oklahoma family holding out hope for a heart donor
OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma City newlywed, who is about to become a father, is fighting for his life.
Just a few months ago, Jeremy Phillips was a normal, extremely active 26-year-old man.
Three months after getting married, he was taken to the hospital for chest pains.
Doctors sent him home, saying the pain wasn’t part of a medical condition that can be treated.
Instead, his family learned he has an enlarged heart that is only functioning at 20 percent.
Unfortunately, his health has declined and officials say the only way he will survive is to have a heart transplant.
Phillips’ wife is pregnant with their first child and is due in September.
On Thursday, Phillips was forced to miss his wife’s ultrasound because of being in the hospital.
However, the family used FaceTime so he would know he was having a little boy.
Phillips’ family says they are hoping to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and heart disease.
