Oklahoma Girl Scout breaks National cookie sales record
OKLAHOMA – Katie Francis, Oklahoma Girl Scout announced Monday that she sold 21,477 boxes of cookies, breaking the national record by nearly 20%.
Katie’s journey began with research on the previous record holder; she set her goal based on the data collected.
Katie who originally set her goal at 18,100, surpassed that goal and continued to sell cookies until the sale ended Sunday night at midnight. She announced her plan to sell 100,000 boxes in her career as a girl member of Girl Scouts.
Her business plan drove Katie to focus on door-to-door sales the first three weeks of the sale, selling every day after school and on weekends.
She uses a portable wagon to transport the six varieties of cookies she sells. Booth sales started February 21 and she began to sell at Oklahoma City’s hottest locations, including Walmart, who has a national agreement with Girl Scouts of the USA that allows cookie sales in front of their stores.
Katie closely monitors her sales and if she does not hit her hourly mark she chooses another location. Katie is currently in New York City participating in a national press tour and will return to her home state to share her experience with fellow Girl Scouts and her community.
Katie’s next step is to write a book with her best recipes using Girl Scout cookies.
