Oklahoma designer launches line as part of Oklahoma Fashion Week 2014

Day five of Oklahoma Fashion Week gave us a small glimpse of the runway and left us wanting more! Amanda Moore, Cenia Paredes, and Victoria Roberts presented collections Thursday evening at Penn Square Mall to a crowd of excited spectators and curious mall patrons.

Each designer presented a selection of women’s wear ranging from more casual tops to glamorous party dresses. Models had hair styled by Trichology Salon, makeup was done by L.J. Hill, and jewelry was provided by the Beauty Lounge, which opens Thursday in Oklahoma City.

Local designer Amanda Moore, a graduate of Oklahoma State University, launched her line in 2012. She spoke of her design process starting with hand sketching through garment production (all of which are made in the US) and is working hard to expand her brand. Though currently selling in some smaller boutiques and in her own online store  she is looking to work with more retailers.

Another aspect of the evening, the Rag Trade Design Competition introduced several college students’ unique perspectives on style. Participants could submit outfits (top and bottom) that they had sewn, recycled, or altered in some way. Outfits have been on display in Penn Square this week and mall-goers have had the opportunity to vote for their favorite designs.

Natalie Heng, a freshman at the University of Central Oklahoma, put her creative skills to use altering items she found at Goodwill into a modern look. A graphic design major, Heng hopes to one day work for a major fashion magazine.

The winner of the competition, Megan Short, a Fashion Marketing major at UCO, submitted a pair of altered denim shorts and a top she had made out of a scarf. Her prizes include VIP tickets to Saturday’s runway shows, a semester supply of Red Bull and gift cards to Penn Square Mall and Rent the Runway.

Friday promises a full day of fashion and style beginning with an Abi Ferrin trunk show at Ruth Meyers from 10:00-3:00 PM (guests must RSVP to attend.). “Fashion and Furs” takes place at Koslow’s from 6:00-8:00 PM and the evening ends at KD’s, with “Food, Wine, and Design” from 8:00-10:00 PM.
