OKLAHOMA CITY – The unanimous feeling among Oklahoma Fashion Week guests, designers and members of the media has been overwhelming support and amazement at the quality of events taking place this week.
From parties to presentations, the standard has definitely been set high for the years to come.
Friday gave a full day of fashion events with the day beginning at R Meyers (formerly Ruth Meyers) in Nichols Hills.
An Abi Ferrin trunk show was held exhibiting Ferrin’s spring collection. She will show her Fall 2014 line Saturday evening with a runway show. Along with a viewing of her current collection Ferrin oversaw model fittings for Saturday’s show. Based out of Dallas, Ferrin was named Texas’ Next Top Designer in 2007. Originally focused on a political career, Ferrin returned to a childhood love of sewing and design which led to her current success.
Known for her figure-flattering designs, Ferrin aims to provide women with “affordable luxury” and designs pieces that both fit and travel well. Versatile, easy-to-care-for fabrics and designed for the “real” woman, customers love the fit and comfort of Ferrin’s designs.
Still socially and politically active, Ferrin started the Freedom Project, an organization working to empower women around the globe. The Freedom Project has been supporting Sak Saum, a ministry that supports and aids the exploited and abused, with resources through the purchase of handmade buttons and accessories used in Abi Ferrin garment production. Every Abi Ferrin garment comes with a special handmade button and supports those in need.
The second event of the day was a “Fashion and Furs” event that took place at Koslow’s. Models displayed fur coats and accessories while guests dined on hors devours and wine.
Koslow’s, a fur and fashion boutique, has been part of Oklahoma City since 1982. Originating in Fort Worth, it has been open since 1904.
