Record Red-White Game for Sooners

A record 43,500 turned out in Norman for the annual Red-White Game. It’s the highest attended spring football game in the Stoops Era.

Former Texas Tech QB Baker Mayfield had an impressive showing tossing a couple of touchdown passes connecting with tight end Taylor McNamara and Wide Receiver Jordan Smallwood.

However, Mayfield is ineligible this season because he played at Tech last year.

McNamara hauled in two touchdown receptions, his other coming from QB Cody Thomas.

The Sooners did survive a couple of scares during the 2 hour game. DE Geneo Grissom and FB Dimitri Flowers both left the game with left knee injuries. Flowers just has a hyperextension while Grissom will miss 6 weeks with an MCL sprain, Bob Stoops confirmed.

Freshman Justice Hansen of Edmond Santa Fe threw a touchdown to Austin Bennett. Hansen and Thomas are battling for the back up QB job behind Trevor Knight.

Knight didn’t throw any touchdowns in the scrimmage.

Former Norman North Linebacker made some play at linebacker along with Eric Striker. Striker tallied sacks on two consecutive plays in the 2nd half.

Bob Stoops said of his defense that they’re just beginning to “scratch the surface.”
