VELMA, Okla. – A court has determined if a man is fit to stand trial in Velma, Oklahoma.

Officials said 23-year-old Miles Bench is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 16-year-old Braylee Henry.

Prosecutors said Bench killed Henry after she stopped to buy gas at a convenience store where he worked.

Authorities said her body was found in a pasture near Velma near the home of Bench’s grandparents, where he was living at the time.

Defense attorneys asked for the competency exam to determine if Bench is fit to stand trial.

On Thursday, a jury decided Bench is able to help in his defense, meaning his trial could start as early as Monday morning.
