CHICKASHA, Okla. – A Chickasha man was arrested Monday for allegedly breaking into his 64-year-old neighbor’s home and raping her.
25-year-old Chad Barber appeared in front of a Grady County judge Tuesday.
He quietly pleaded his innocence saying he had a wife and kid and they lived in the same mobile home park, within walking distance from one another.
According to court documents the attack happened last month.
She told police officers that a man with a red beard entered her home, bound her up and raped her.
He then allegedly poured cleaning solution, including bleach, on her after the attack.
She also told them the attack went on for an hour.
“Since that time we were able to basically develop some good leads and follow-up. We located who we believed to be our suspect. We went and got DNA swabs.” said Major Elip Moore.
In the month that it took to arrest Barber, the elderly victim continued living just down the street from him, seeing her alleged attacker every day.
After the DNA swabs came back as a match, officers asked Barber if he would be comfortable taking a polygraph.
He declined saying it would make him look guilty.
NewsChannel 4 asked Barber why, since he had earlier proclaimed his innocence.
“My lawyer said that’s what I should do," said Barber
A lawyer was not present at Barber’s arraignment.
He sat alone, reading the charges he's facing.
Barber is facing one count of rape and one count of burglary.
His bond was set at $500,000.
