Startling Study: Most children gain weight after having tonsils removed

Hospital surgery

STANFORD, Cali. – Researchers have found a startling new statistic when it comes to having your tonsils out.

About half a million children in the United States have their tonsils removed each year and of those kids, most gained weight after the procedure.

According to the study from Stanford University, young children are likely to pack on a few pounds after the procedure.

Researchers found the patients’ average weight went up about 6 percent after surgery.

However, this weight gain did not increase the rate of obesity.

The number of overweight patients before and after surgery remained the same.

No word on why the kids gain weight.
