UPDATE: Woman turns self in for stealing toys from baby’s grave after caught on tape
UPDATE: A woman caught on surveillance video has turned herself for removing toys from an Ohio baby’s grave.
Frieda Kay Shade admitted she is the woman seen in the video taking the stuffed animal just before Easter.
WJW reported the woman told officials she saw a loose dog running around and she lifted the stuffed animal to “keep the dog from destroying it.”
She was ticketed for petty theft.
This wasn’t the first time items have been taken from 14-month-old Hayden “Tank” Cole Sheridan’s final resting place.
The family said things have been disappearing from the baby boy’s grave since 2007 shortly after he died.
A surveillance camera was finally set up in 2012 and just last week was the first time anyone has ever been caught on tape.
Officials have not said if Shade is indicated in any of the previous thefts.
ONTARIO, Ohio – Items of remembrance have been disappearing from a baby’s grave since shortly after he died in 2007.
Recently, a stuffed animal placed at the 14-month-old boy’s plot for Easter was stolen before the holiday.
Now video has finally captured a possible suspect in the act.
Hayden “Tank” Cole Sheridan’s parents decided to go to police in 2012 and set up a surveillance camera.
It was there for years without ever getting a clear shot of the culprit, until April 19, 2014.
Officials said a large stuffed duck was left at Sheridan’s grave Saturday morning.
The video shows a woman walking away with the plush toy that afternoon.
Detectives are quick to point out the person in the video may not be responsible for all of the previous thefts.
“Most of all, the family just wants some assurance that they can leave a night-light and a stuffed animal at their son’s grave without someone stealing it,” the Ontario Police Department wrote on its Facebook page.
Officials said the cemetery has confirmed it is not the one removing the items.
Police are asking the public’s help identifying the woman in the video.
