OKLAHOMA CITY – Do you enjoy working outdoors?
People who enjoy working outside, supervising children or being a lifeguard are encouraged to apply for spring and summer part-time employment with Oklahoma City Parks Department.
Jobs are available for qualified workers interested in being lifeguards, recreation leaders and ground maintenance workers.
Hundreds of positions need to be filled for the following:
- Litter, mowing and trimming crews
- Lifeguards, water safety instructors and pool cashiers
- Recreation leaders and supervisors for the Parks and Recreation Department’s summer program
Grounds Maintenance Crews:
Immediate openings are available for seasonal grounds maintenance crews. Crews work in city parks and public spaces to mow, trim and pick up litter. Positions are needed through October, and most positions do not require prior experience.
Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructor:
Lifeguards serve at the City’s pools and family aquatic centers. Qualified candidates must be at least 15 years of age (16 by the time they finish training) and must pass a pre-training qualification test. Lifeguard training is available through the City of Oklahoma City at a cost of $35 per person for those who sign on to guard for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Water Safety Instructor training is also available for those who already have valid lifeguard certification. A refresher lifeguarding course may also be required before hiring.

Recreation leaders organize and supervise children six and older with multiple indoor and outdoor activities, including games, sports, arts and crafts, as well as field trips. Individual candidates must be at least 16 years old and have reliable transportation to and from the worksite. The summer program runs 8 a.m.–5 p.m. every Monday–Friday in June and July.
