OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma City man is fighting for his life.
Police say he was hit by a drunk driver who fled the scene, leaving him in the middle of the street.
Whitney and Alexis have been at the hospital around the clock praying for their father who is fighting for his life.
Clifford Parks was hit while crossing the street near the intersection at NW 10th and Council Saturday night.
Police say the driver left the scene.
The victim’s daughter Whitney Freeman said, “He was laying in the middle of the street and someone else that was driving by saw everything that happened.”
That witness followed the driver and called police.
At a nearby apartment complex they found the woman believed to be behind the wheel, Charity Slaughter.
Parks’ other daughter Alexis Walker said, “You (Slaughter) don’t stop to see if he’s ok, to see who you hit or nothing. You just keep going. It’s terrible. I have no understanding at all.”
The sisters say Parks’ condition is critical.
They say he has internal bleeding, a shattered pelvis and countless broken bones on the right side of his body from his shoulder all the way down to his foot.
“I feel like she didn’t care because you don’t run over a human being and just keep going.”
Slaughter claims she was not over the legal drinking limit.
She is facing a host of charges including leaving the scene of an accident with great bodily injury and DUI.
For the family the charges are not good enough.
Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow with the Oklahoma City Police said, “If it’s determined that any additional charges need to be filed, he can always go back and do so. Obviously if in the case that he passes away the charges can be amended.
Slaughter is out on a $6,000 bail.
Whitney said “Bail or not she shouldn’t have been released because if you do this once you will do it again.”
Investigators say the charges the suspect is facing right now are appropriate but could change if the victim doesn’t pull through.
