SHAWNEE, OKLA. – Around 4:30 a.m. fire crews received a call reporting heavy smoke coming from a convenience store off of Lake Rd and NS 334.

When crews arrived the building was engulfed in flames that had broke through the roof, said fire officials.

The building, formally Sunny Beaches Convenience Store, was a total loss.

Fire officials said that it took them 12 minutes to get to that fire, longer than normal.

They credited the distance from the station, 9 miles, and the lack of a hydrant in the area for the time.

The convenience store had been vacated prior to that fire.

Crews are still on scene putting out the flames.

No injuries have been reported.
