OSU’s Justin Gilbert Picked Eighth In NFL Draft

Former Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert was picked eighth overall in the NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns switched spots with the Minnesota Vikings last-minute and surprised many by taking Gilbert with the draft’s eighth selection.

Gilbert is the sixth Cowboy taken in the first round over the last six years, tops in the Big 12 conference.

In his senior season, the Huntsville, Texas native was a consensus all american and finalist for the national defensive back honor, the Jim Thorpe Award.

The four-year Cowboy intercepted seven passes last season and has the school and conference record for kick returns for touchdowns with six.

Gilbert is OSU’s second cornerback taken in the first round, R. W. McQuarters was taken 28th overall in 1998 by the San Francisco 49ers.

The former Pokes star will get to play with pro bowl cornerback Joe Haden with the Browns.
