DETROIT – A mother in Michigan says she just didn’t like the way she looked anymore.
Yvette Vajcner said, “I was miserable. I was crying. I felt like I was dying inside my body.”
Just over a year ago, she weighed 259 pounds and struggled to play with her three small children.
After stepping on the scale for a health assessment at work, Yvette decided to make a lifestyle change.
She said, “I got rid of pre-packaged foods. I started buying produce, lean meat.”
She also turned to a free app, MyFitnessPal, to drop 100 pounds in a year.
Yvette said, “Well, the app is really simple to use. It shows you your calories for the day, the food that you’ve taken in, and also extra food that you can take in because of exercise that you’ve done. So, I scan it and it tells me exactly how many calories and all my different fat.”
She says she stopped eating fast food and started eating breakfast.
She also walked on the treadmill at least five days a week.
In the first week of her new lifestyle, Yvette lost nine pounds.
She said, “Every week after that, it went from five pounds to three pounds to two pounds a week. There were weeks where I wouldn’t lose anything and I’d get really discouraged. But, I think the anger and the frustration, I kind of channeled it to motivate myself.”
After just one year, Yvette lost 100 pounds.
She says the key to success was sticking to her plan.
She said, “We do want instant results, but it’s not going to happen. It’s not realistic. After you make that goal, make another goal, and just keeping making goals and just keep at it.”
