Oklahoma City makes list of ‘Best and Worst Cities for Small Business’

OKLAHOMA CITY – When it comes to shopping for a perfect gift, many people may head to a small business to find just what they are looking for.

City chambers tend to promote small businesses, especially this time of year.

National Small Business Week is the week of May 12 through May 16 and several organizations are encouraging residents to shop local.

Recently, WalletHub created a list of the ‘Best & Worst Cities to Work for a Small Business.”

Organizers say they looked at net small business job growth, industry variety, hours worked and average wages for new hires to evaluate the state of small businesses in the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the country.

The 10 best cities for small businesses are as follows:

  1. Minneapolis, MN
  2. Salt Lake City, UT
  3. Miami, FL
  4. Madison, WI
  5. Oklahoma City, OK
  6. San Francisco, CA and Denver, CO
  7. Seattle, WA
  8. Dallas, TX
  9. Indianapolis, IN
  10. New York, NY

Tulsa came in at No. 21, which was just below Portland, Oregon.

WalletHub says the worst cities for small businesses include:

  • Scranton, PA
  • Jackson, MS
  • Augusta, GA
  • Modesto, CA
  • Stockton, CA
