This week’s Pay it Forward is a fairy tale of sorts.
It’s the story of a little girl who had to face grown-up challenges and the woman who was there at the right time to work her magic.
Nine-year-old Maddy was only four when she began to feel a little tired.
"Sometimes I don't know if I feel well. I can't really tell if it's one of those little bugs," Maddy says.
It turned out to be a big bug---leukemia.
Her world suddenly became a whirl of medical tests and procedures.
That’s when Kay Tangner appeared.
Kay, a volunteer at Children’s Hospital, saw that the kids needed something to take their minds off their illnesses. She went to work organizing an art program.
But that was just the beginning.
"Well, she's like the sweetest person in the world. She threw me a tea party in the hospital, “ Maddy says. "I love her so much she's just so fun and kind.”
Fancy clothes and teacups replaced needles and chemo---at least for a little while.
That's why Maddy's grandmother, Sandy Gilliam, nominated Kay for the Pay It Forward award.
Watch the video as NewsChannel Four’s Linda Cavanaugh and Faith Clune from Spirit Mortgage surprise Kay with $400 in cash.
