OKLAHOMA - There are several different ways to prepare for an emergency.
Believe it or not, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have advice for all of us in the event of an extremely uncommon outbreak.
Are zombies among us? Probably not but the CDC wants to give you some tips anyway.
The CDC has a lengthy description of what you should do in the event of a zombie apocalypse online.
In reality, the CDC used the zombie apocalypse as an entertaining way to educate people on being prepared for a real emergency.
Scott Harper sells survival gear and says the zombie plan is pretty creative.
"I don't know that the zombie thing is going to happen but it applies to all of the disasters," Harper said.
Oklahoma knows natural disasters all too well.
So being prepared even on the smallest scale this storm season could keep you and your family safe in the event of severe weather.
"With a lot of the emergencies there's a lot of overlap as far as you see what's needed and I think it`s the bare necessities being food water shelter first aid kits you know things like that," Harper said.
At Homestand they have the bare necessities and and more.
Everything ranging from the basic first aid kit to blueberry pancake mix.
Evan Hofer just moved to Oklahoma and knows about our severe weather so he stopped by the store to put his kit together.
"Things can get pretty crazy out there so it's always good to have something to help you out, in case something happens," Hofer said.
Hofer said with all zombie hype in the media today, the CDC's plan, could actually save lives.
"If it gets people to start thinking to be prepared for any type of situation, zombie or not, I think it`s a good marketing strategy," Hofer added.
