GREENVILLE, N.C. – The owner of a dog that has been named the ugliest dog in Greenville, North Carolina wants to enter him in the World’s Ugliest Dog contest in California next month.

Peanut was set on fire by his previous owner.

Someone found him, barely alive and took him to the vet.

He spent nine months there, unwanted until Holly Chandler adopted him back in July.

His eyelids and lips were burned, and he can’t close his eyes.

Some of his hair will not grow back.

Chandler says she is hoping to enter him into the World’s Ugliest Dog contest for one reason.

She said,  “I’m not doing this not because he’s ugly, It’s a huge platform to spread his story and raise awareness for animal abuse and this is what can happened.”

The World’s Ugliest Dogs Contest require they be naturally ugly, but the organizers say they have taken rescue pets with stories like Peanut’s in the past and will consider letting him compete.
