ENID, Okla. – Authorities say a 72-year-old Enid man was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon.

According to Enid News a Garfield County jury deliberated for an hour before returning a guilty verdict for Ray Dean Bartel.

The jury recommended a seven-and-a-half-year sentence for Bartel.

In 2012 Bartel was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Bartel allegedly assaulted a man with a machete during an incident of road rage.

Officials say the victim told police that a truck had been riding his bumper.

When he stopped, Bartel got out of his pickup, called the victim a racial slur and then allegedly attacked him with a machete.

Enid News says the victim suffered a nick to his neck during the argument.
