WVU Baseball Continues Bond With Moore Tornado Victims

For several years now, each spring Oklahoma City plays host to the Big 12 baseball tournament.

The 2013 tournament was different than any other before it, as Moore, Oklahoma was devastated by a tornado a day before the tournament was set to start.

After arriving in Oklahoma City, one of the conference’s new members, West Virginia University sprang into action to help those affected by the tornado.

WVU head coach Randy Mazey, gave an emotional interview to reporters and told the media of how his team pitched in to aid victims of the storm.

Mark and Katrina Ellerd, of Moore, were one of the families that the Mountaineers helped in 2013.

The team helped the Ellerd’s clean up their home in the aftermath of the storm.

Mazey says, since then Mark has come to Morgantown, West Virginia, home of WVU, to speak at the Mountaineers’ team banquet.

The Mountaineers head man says the Ellerd’s are now “friends of the program” and that his team re-visited the family in Moore on Tuesday, May 20, on the one year anniversary of the deadly tornado.

Watch above as Mazey talks about the event and family that made “a lasting impression” on his program.
