Cadet accidentally shoots himself and instructor during training exercise

OKLAHOMA COUNTY, Okla. - Emergency crews responded to two gun shot victims at the Oklahoma County gun range near 36th and Air Depot Rd. Monday afternoon.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Trooper Mark Walters, a 30 year veteran of the OHP was on duty as a firearms instructor when Cadet Bryce Scout experienced an accidental discharge of his weapon, shooting both himself and the firearms instructor.

Both victims were transported to the hospital where they were treated and released for their minor injuries.

OHP spokesperson Betsy Randolph says the cadet was shot in the leg and the instructor was shot in the hand.

Randolph says the instructor and cadet both returned to duty Tuesday.
