BAXTER, Iowa (WHO-TV) – Police in Iowa arrested a California man, who claims he was an actor in a popular movie, after he allegedly tried to lure a 14-year-old girl into his car.

According to WHO-TV, police say 33-year-old David LaVera started talking to the girl on social media.

The victim’s mother says LaVera told her daughter he was an actor from the movie ‘Twilight.’

After talking on Facebook, LaVera drove to the girl’s home to meet with her.

“This isn’t somebody that just wants to be friends. And typically, this is the kind of person that meets a profile of somebody that can be a predator and can be dangerous,” said Chief Steve Wright, with the Baxter Police Department.

Before the girl left her home with LaVera, her sister called their mother.

At that point, the woman called police and several friends.

Police say the woman’s friend spotted the pair and took matters into her own hands.

“My girlfriend saw them coming off a gravel road, pointing back into town, blocked them off, jumped out, stopped the vehicle with her own body and told my daughter to get out of the car, made her get in her vehicle, ” said April Roush, the victim’s mother.

After the girl got out of the car, authorities say LaVera took off .

However, police eventually caught up with him.

LaVera was arrested on a weapons charge, driving without a license and enticement.
