CDC investigates ongoing salmonella outbreak linked to Chia products
Health officials announced a Salmonella outbreak that has been linked to Chia products.
Experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say 21 people in 12 states have been sickened and two have been hospitalized after using contaminated Chia powder.
The powder is made from Chia seeds and is often added to foods like smoothies for health benefit.
Officials are concerned because the products have a long shelf life, and if not thrown out, cases may continue for several months.
Navitas Naturals, Green Smoothie Girl and Health Matters America are the companies named in the recall.
