‘An answered prayer,’ Stranger’s donation helps struggling mother

OKLAHOMA CITY – Generous Oklahomans are at it again.

Last week a woman was approached by a man after checking the mail at the post office after hours.

The woman says the stranger gave her a large amount of cash just because he believed she would know what to do with it.

“This is the perfect example of faith,” said Honey Valuikas.

Honey Valuikas works for Mustard Seed, a non-profit, focusing on rebuilding communities and developing leaders.

She was checking the mail last week for donations, when a stranger approached her.

“This gentleman is standing there and he says ‘I think I’ve been waiting for you,’ which freaks me out a little bit. I mean that’s kind of scary,” said Valuikas.

The man asked her to wait while he went to run an errand, she did.

“It was like the longest 15 minutes of my life,” said Valuikas.

The mystery man came back, giving her $440.

“He said ‘I figured you’d know exactly where it’s supposed to go’ and I knew where it was exactly supposed to go. I’d been helping a young lady earlier that morning that needed $438.50 to pay a bill,” said Valuikas.

Valuikas called the encounter an answered prayer.

She says the kind stranger had no idea how his donation would help a struggling mom.

“I was about ready to throw my hands up and for her to call me at that moment, I was like, OK, God really is listening to me,” said the Oklahoma City mom.

This mother, who asked to remain anonymous, is raising five kids on her own while trying to earn a living.

She said this stranger’s generous gift, couldn’t have come at a better time.  The gift will help her catch up on the piling bills this month.

“Thank you for listening, because there are so many times we let opportunities pass us by, to help somebody.”
