(CNN) – If you spend a lot of your time sitting, you may want to get up and move around more often.

According to new research published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, sitting every day is linked to a higher risk of developing certain types of cancer.

The study found an additional two hours a day of sedentary behavior was linked to an 8 percent increased risk for colon cancer, a 10 percent increased risk for endometrial cancer and a 6 percent increased risk for lung cancer.

However, it did not find the same connection for breast, rectum, ovary and prostate cancers.

Researchers analyzed 43 existing studies, which included more than 4 million study participants, to measure the relationship between hours spent sitting and certain types of cancer.

A 2012 study found that sitting for several hours a day is bad for you, even if you are physically active.

Experts say even exercising at least 150 minutes each week can’t reverse the negative effects of sitting down for hours.
