DUNCAN, Okla. –  An Oklahoma school district is making an important and possibly life-saving purchase for students and employees.

The Duncan Board of Education has approved the purchase of more than 4,000 skateboard helmets.

Students and employees can wear the helmets for protection during a tornado.

The more than $34,000 used to purchase the helmets was raised by the “Cover Our Kids Campaign” in Duncan.

That campaign was created in response to last May’s tornado that claimed the lives of seven school children at Plaza Towers Elementary in Moore, Okla.

The Moore school district has already purchased helmets.
