GM announces recall of 8.4 million vehicles, company’s largest single day of recalls yet

NEW YORK (CNN) – An American car company announced Monday that it is recalling millions of vehicles.

General Motors announced that it is recalling more than 8.4 million vehicles worldwide.

On Monday, the total number of vehicles recalled amounted to the company’s largest single day of recalls this year.

The recalls center around the ignition switch, faulty wiring and fasteners.

The ignition switch recall is in effect for the following models:

  • 1997-2005 Chevrolet Malibu
  • 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrique
  • 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero
  • 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am
  • 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo
  • 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix
  • 2003- 2014 Cadillac CTS
  • 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX

An issue with the engine block power heater cord forced GM to recall the following:

  • 2011-2014 Chevrolet Cruzes
  • 2012-2014 Chevrolet Sonics
  • 2013-2014 Chevrolet Traxs
  • 2013-2014 Buick Encores
  • 2013-2014 Buick Veranos

A fastener that may be missing caused a recall for the following:

  • 2014 Chevrolet Camaro
  • 2014 Chevrolet Impala
  • 2014 Buick Regal
  • 2014 Cadillac XTS

Officials say they are recalling the following vehicles because of an issue with the power system that can cause a fire:

  • 2007-2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD
  • 2007-2011 GMC Sierra HD

An electrical short that can disable the power door lock and window switches may be affecting the following cars:

  • 2005-2007 Buick Rainier
  • 2005-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer
  • 2005-2007 GMC Envoy
  • 2005-2007 Isuzu Ascender
  • 2005-2007 Saab 9-7x
  • 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT
  • 2006 GMC Envoy XL
