MIAMI, Fla. – A Florida judge has dismissed a lawsuit that was filed by George Zimmerman against NBC Universal.
Zimmerman sued NBC for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Seminole County Judge Debra Nelson wrote in her order that there was no evidence that NBC News knew the information it published was false or that NBC had recklessly disregarded the truth.
NBC News issued the following statement:
“NBC News is gratified by the court’s dismissal of this lawsuit, which we have always believed to be without merit.”
Zimmerman was suing for damages, saying NBC practiced “yellow journalism” by editing his 911 call.
NBC News fired at least two employees involved in the editing process and publicly apologized.
