ALTUS, Okla. – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred in Altus this morning.
According to The Telegraph, Altus police were responding to a possible suicide welfare check when David Barton, 45, allegedly pointed what appeared to be a firearm at police.
According to OSBI, one Altus officer fired several rounds from his service weapon, striking Barton in the left shoulder.
The man was transported to the hospital for his injuries. Officials say his wound is not life threatening.
Once the OSBI investigation is complete, the case agent will submit a written report to the district attorney’s office.
The district attorney will then determine if the shooting was justified.
