BEIJING, China (NBC) – A lot of people flock to the store when a new device hits shelves, but one man in China is grateful he waited to upgrade.

Authorities say 70-year-old Liu Quanming was attached to his 10-year-old Nokia cell phone.

Recently, Quanming went hiking in a Taiwanese ravine and got separated from his group.

According to NBC, he was lost for five days and fell down the mountain into a ravine.

When he fell, he dropped his phone.

Fortunately, the sturdy phone survived the fall and sent out signals.

Rescuers were able to call his phone and found Quanming lying nearby.
