Mother of toddler killed in hot car speaking out about charges against husband
COBB COUNTY, Ga. – The wife of a man in Georgia, who is facing several charges related to their son’s death, is speaking out about the alleged crime.
Authorities say 30-year-old Leanna Harris says 33-year-old Justin Harris is a good father.
Harris told police he forgot to drop off his 22-month-old son, Cooper, at daycare.
Instead, Cooper died while sitting in his car seat for over seven hours while Justin Harris was at work.
Harris said when he realized his mistake, he immediately called for help.
However, it was too late.
Investigators charged Harris after learning he researched how long it would take for a child to die in a hot car.
According to New York Daily News, Leanna Harris told investigators that she also researched how children can die of heat stroke in a locked car.
According to the police affidavit, the couple said they were looking up information as a preventative measure.
No charges have been filed against Leanna.
Cooper’s funeral was held Saturday in Alabama.
