Travel Channel star’s “thinspiration” post leads to heated debate

If you are a fan of a popular Travel Channel show, you are probably familiar with Adam Richman.

Richman is known for being the star of “Man v. Food,” but he is now getting attention for a photo he posted on Instagram.

The TV personality has lost more than 60 pounds since ending “Man v. Food” so he took to the social site to share his weight loss.

His use of the hashtag #thinspiration has sparked a heated online debate.

A writer named Amber Sarah says “thinspiration” is commonly used in pro-anorexia and pro-bulimia communities.

According to reports, after learning about the meaning behind the word, Richman responded by saying, “Do I look like I give a f***?”

Users say he also wrote, “Grab a razor and draw a bath. I doubt anyone will miss you.”

While his Instagram is locked, he publicly apologized for his words.

“I’ve long since struggled with my body image and have worked very hard to achieve a healthy weight. Instead of responding to hurtful comments with compassion, I lashed out in anger. I’m not asking for sympathy, but rather understanding and forgiveness. I can say with certainty that I’m taking a deep look at myself and I’m incredibly sorry to everyone I’ve hurt,” Richman said in his apology.

The Travel Channel confirmed that his new show, “Man Finds Food” is postponed indefinitely.
