OKLAHOMA CITY - A celebration turns to tragedy in Oklahoma City.
Police continue to investigate an overnight murder after a man was gunned down outside a local hotel.
It happened outside the Residence Inn near Reno and Meridian.
So far the gunman remains on the loose.
No arrests have yet been made.
The shooting was definitely a rude awakening for several guests overnight.
"We were hearing different fireworks going off and then I heard small arms fire. 5 shots one after another," said Shane Gibbs. "When I heard the shots I knew right away it was gunfire. It sounded like 5 shots, so pop pop pop pop pop."
Driving from Topeka Kansas, Gibbs stopped at the hotel for the night.
He didn't know the victim, but immediately suspected the gunshots could prove fatal.
"I serve in the military and when I heard the shots I knew something was going down somewhere," said Gibbs.
Police say a party at the hotel got out of hand and a disturbance spilled into the parking lot.
That's where the fatal shots were fired.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was rushed to a local hospital.
He later died.
Gibbs says it's sad way to begin for Fourth in the metro.
"It's tragic no matter what time of year it is. We've got kids shooting each other all over the United States," said Gibbs. "I just know things like that happen and it's very tragic."
There were witnesses to the shooting, but so far police do not have a suspect description to give out.
The shooter was seen leaving the scene in a late model silver vehicle.
