Thunder player withdraws from Basketball World Cup

OKLAHOMA CITY – One of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s star players will not be playing in USA Basketball’s World Cup in Spain this summer.

According to Yahoo Sports, Russell Westbrook has withdrawn from the roster for the World Cup.

Westbrook was part of the gold-medal-winning teams in 2010 world championships and in the 2012 Olympics.

Yahoo Sports says Westbrook still has hopes of playing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

The 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup begins August 30, 2014.
