Three men arrested for allegedly shooting fireworks at firefighters
OKLAHOMA CITY – Police arrested three Oklahoma City men after they were allegedly playing recklessly with fireworks.
As firefighters were responding to a call on July 6, they were caught off guard when they came under fire.
According to the arrest affidavit, the fire crew reported that someone was setting off fireworks and aiming the mortar type rounds at them.
The report says one of the firemen said one of the mortar rounds went between his legs and caused temporary hearing loss.
When officers got to the apartment, they say someone opened the door and threw out a launching tube before shutting the door.
Witnesses identified the alleged suspects as 22-year-old Derek Shaw and 19-year-old Jaylen Edwards.
Shaw is facing a charge of use or threat to use explosive, incendiary, or simulated bomb to damage or injure person or property and a violation of a deferred sentence.
Edwards is facing a charge of use or threat to use explosive, incendiary, or simulated bomb to damage or injure person or property.
In addition, 18-year-old Demarrea Smith is facing a charge of resisting arrest.
