Graphic: Bystanders stop alleged carjacker, save woman and child

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KTLA) – A group of bystanders jumped into action after a man allegedly tried to carjack a vehicle with a woman and her child inside.

According to KTLA, it started when a man got into a minivan with a woman and child inside near the Appletree Market in San Diego.

The man drove off with the woman and her child still inside the vehicle.

However, his run from the law came to an abrupt end when he hit a pole.

A group of men heard the woman and child screaming and ran to help.

A video by Aaron leaf shows the bystanders dragging 21-year-old Ismael Hernandez out of the vehicle and forcing him to the ground.

He was repeatedly punched and suffered minor injuries while struggling with the bystanders.

The bystanders were able to hold him until police arrived.

Hernandez was booked on suspicion of a number of charges, including attempted carjacking, kidnapping, vehicle theft and DUI.
