Update 7/16 – Police have identified the man killed in a motorcycle collision in Norman.

Tuesday afternoon emergency crews responded to an injury collision on East State Highway 9.

A preliminary investigation indicated Billy Becknell, 59, was driving a truck pulling a trailer when he pulled into the left lane and prepared to turn.

Becknell stopped or slowed to wait for other traffic to clear.

Thomas Cotrone, 36, was driving a Yamaha motorcycle and entered the same turn lane.

Cotrone made contact with the rear of the pickup’s trailer and was transported to the hospital where he later passed away as a result of his injuries.

Officials say Cotrone is a former Norman Police Officer.

He was wearing his helmet at the time of the collision.

Police say it does not appear any criminal charges will be requested.
