A Japanese car manufacturer is recalling 226,000 vehicles because of defective air bags.

This recall combined with an earlier recall brings the total number of vehicles recalled by Nissan to over 660,000.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Nissan North America is recalling some lines in its Infiniti, Maxima, Pathfinder and Sentra models for 2002 to 2004.

The problem is that the airbag’s inflator can rupture, causing metal parts to fly out if the airbag is deployed.

Nissan says that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.

The company says dealers will replace any faulty inflators free of charge.

The National Highway Safety Administration says that people affected by the recall will be notified.

Owners can also contact Nissan customer service if they’re not sure if their vehicle is involved in the recall.
