MOORE, Okla. –  Moore, Okla. students return to school in a few weeks, and one elementary school that touched many hearts around the nation will have a special homecoming.

The finishing touches are being put on the brand new Plaza Towers Elementary School.

The school was destroyed by the May 20, 2013 tornado, which killed 24 people, including 7 children at Plaza Towers Elementary.

The school will open its doors again next month, and a brand new sign went up outside the school Tuesday to greet students.

A memorial is also being built in front of Plaza Towers Elementary School to honor the 7 students who died, and pay tribute to the heroic actions of the Moore community during and after the EF5 tornado.

Along with the finishing touches, members of the Plaza Towers PTA and the Moore Fire Department lent a hand to build a new playground.

A second playground is planned to go up next week.

Plaza Towers has been holding class at Central Mid High while their school is being rebuilt.

Classes in Moore start August 19th.
