A smartphone app can help facilitate the transaction.

The company behind the free app “Leftover Swap” wants to “Save The World” one take out box at a time.

According to their website, about 40% of food goes to waste.

They say leftover app could be a solution.

Here’s how it works: When you have something remaining from your meal, you snap a photo, post it on your profile and then wait for someone nearby to claim it or offer a trade.

You can also view the available leftovers around you, choose what you want, and set up for pickup or delivery.
