Since the world learned of Robin Williams’ death, there have been countless messages and tributes to the iconic comedian.

One surprising pal, a famous ape, also had a personal connection to Williams.

Koko, who is best known for understanding sign language, has been seen on PBS and featured as a ‘cover girl’ on National Geographic.

Williams visited Koko in 2001 and started a special friendship.

Koko’s caretaker said the gorilla sensed that something was wrong from listening to phone calls on Monday, which is the day the news of Williams’ death broke.
