CABELL COUNTY, W.V. – A West Virginia mother is facing several charges after investigators say her children were living in deplorable conditions.

Authorities say 27-year-old Amanda Hatfield is charged with four counts of child neglect.

Investigators say the children’s bedrooms were in horrible condition.

Officials say one bedroom had insect eggs matted into the carpet, cockroaches in the drawers and rotten food.

Her children range in ages from 4-years-old to 8-years-old.

When investigators asked Hatfield about the conditions, she said the children wouldn’t listen to her when she told them to throw their trash away.

She told officers the children normally slept on the couch because they did not want to sleep in their beds.

The children were removed from the home and are staying with a relative.
