OKLAHOMA CITY-  The doctor charged with the deaths of several former patients pleaded guilty to several charges in court on Wednesday.

Prosecutors say William Valuck wrote more prescriptions by a wide margin than any other doctor in the state, which allegedly resulted in at least eight overdoses.

According to prosecutors, Valuck over-prescribed pills by the hundreds to patients without legitimate medical needs.

Valuck was facing more than 60 felonies, including dozens of criminal counts of illegal drug distribution.

In exchange for a guilty plea, prosecutors dropped all the drug charges and Valuck will only be charged with second-degree murder.

He was sentenced to 10 years but is expected to serve eight years in prison.

Valuck surrendered his medical license late last year before the criminal charges were filed.
