Former Sooner football star to miss first NFL season
NORMAN, Okla. – A former Sooner standout on the football field will miss this NFL season after suffering an injury during the preseason.
Gabe Ikard, who was the starting center for the University of Oklahoma, was not drafted this year but was trying to make it as a part of the Tennessee Titans roster.
However, he tore his ACL and meniscus in his knee during the preseason with the team.
Ikard sent the following message to KFOR sports director Bob Barry Jr.:
“I tore my ACL and meniscus during our preseason game at New Orleans. I am currently in Florida. Dr. James Andrews will be performing surgery on me tomorrow. The Titans have been very supportive in the process. They are covering everything from travel and hotel to meals. I will head back to Nashville on Friday to start rehabbing with the Titans’ training staff. They will be placing me on IR and I will still be attending meetings and be in Nashville at the request of the GM and coaches. Its unfortunate that it happened, but I will be ready to compete for a roster spot next year.”
